Effectively describing your topic to the scriptwriter can make the first draft of your script much better! Here are some basic guidelines to follow:
Less means the scriptwriter will have to guess about the direction of the script, more is information overload at this step in the process.
Describe what the focus of the script should be. For example, I want to make a video about self-driving cars. In this case, your subject is self-driving cars.
This is key. Be specific about how you want the writer to create the messaging.
Without the angle, the writer might tell a story about how cameras and LIDAR are the technology behind the self-driving cars. But, for example, an angle like Talk about how self-driving cars will change commutes and urban planning. Address the changes we'll experience to the way we live and work, including how more free time will make us happier and more productive will help the writer tell the story you had in mind rather than picking its own path.
Specificity here will have a huge impact in how useful the first draft is to you (e.g. the above angle is better than just saying Talk about its implications and focus on the interesting stuff).
You’ll have an opportunity later to make precise, targeted changes. For now, focus on the big picture of where you want the script to go.
